Read all you can, Internet is endless. Then think of it as a savings account you can see and enjoy if you like the outdoors. If have children can be excellent opportunity to grow and teach them about life, and responsibilities. As for financial, keep expectations low, maybe pay real estate taxes and insurance. Difficult for professional full time operators to make anything. Unfortunate does provide tax breaks for non farm income to be expensed, thus helping the economy, but competes against full timers, see photos of Russ preg checking cows. Personal opinion, feeder steer operation would be better than cow calf on small acres. Location makes lots of difference on type of program to put together. Good Luck
