I'm not sure why he used them but I can give you my idea on it. My guess is he used the wire vise ends just to simplify tieing off on square posts. Using wire vise ends as actual tightening devices is a pain in the butt. He will have a hard time keeping them tight with strainers let alone using a chain grab and wire vises. I normally just take a chainsaw and tamper the 4 corners off a bit and use crimp sleeves as I would round posts....I have just wrapped around the square before but eventually the wire will cut into the posts to equal out pressure. Also I've heard salesmen tell farmers they need wire vises if they are going to drill the line posts to keep it in the center......not true but it does sell products. I'd prefer the spring loaded type strainer over the two handed clip lock style but each to their own and what ever works is cool. Have a good one
