Subject: big savings

Your savings goes way beyond the $ value that you pay the mixing company. First of all, you know exactly what you put in the feed and know that it contains what is supposed to be in the batch. With a commercial mill, you are at their mercy as to what "actually" went in the feed vs what was "supposed" to go into the feed.

Secondly, you know that you put the right feed in the right tank! We have had the COOP feed truck pull in our yard and get ready to unload. We don't buy feed from that company.

Additionally, when you buy feed in town, the invoice always says that they made EXACTLY 4 ton or 8 T or whatever you ordered.

Commercial feed mills also make you buy the ingredients from them. You'll have more freedom if you mix your own.

We've been grinding our own feed for more than 25 years. Our feed mill now is more advanced than the local coop. We've been using Easy Systems automatic batching for about the last 15 years and now have a feed leg with 50T overhead bins to load the truck. It is very acccurate.

Anyway, if you are planning to make a lot of feed, make the investment to get a horizontal mixer and a stationary 360 degree hammer mill. You'll get a better grind and a better mix.

Make sure you have a scale on the mixer, too.
