I use and like the Gallagher step in pigtails most of the time.
However, when the frost sets in I have been using the 3/8" dia rebar posts with a little metal vee plate at the bottom. Carry a 4 or 5 lb hand sledge and they go in at least partially up to he wedge. Then use some plastic screw on type insulators at the top. This will work up until the ground is really hard frozen. Rebar posts are fairly inexpensive too.
The ground pictured above looks a whole lot different than mine right now (2-3ft of snow in most areas). I had to disconnect the bottomwire on several 2 wire divider fences on T posts - they were buried in snow. Alternate grazing and feed systems like above look pretty attractive right now. Mine love the standing unharvested corn and stalks. Good luck. Jim at Dawn
