Wow! I keep pretty good calving records and have never seen or heard of anything like that anywhere around here. But I think I remember reading about a rancher somewhere in the plains a few years back that selected his entire cow herd based on their twinning ability, so maybe it isn't a first. 4 years ago we had 8 sets of twins and saved 14 of the calves, but that doesn't even come close to what you're talking about. Any given year we normally have 2 or 3 sets of twins, nice to have a spare for grafting but a nuisance when you get too many. For the most part though, twins are basically a PITA, especially from a labor standpoint cause we never leave both on the mother. |
