| I'm actually using a 18.4x38 tractor tire for a cover on one of my earthmover tire tanks. The tractor tire as is pretty well fits the 46"? bead of the earthmover tire which has 2 drinker holes cut in it.
I used spray foam to seal between the tractor and earthmover tire. I covered the tractor tire with a sheet of plywood held down with a 9.00-20 truck tire and a 15" car tire on top of it.
All that rubber seems to insulate pretty well and also absorb what solar heat there is. The float inside never froze last winter. The tank is located in a fenceline with a drinker on each side. I have the rubber portions that were cut out to make the drinker holes on each side so I can plug the side I'm not using.
It's best to adjust the float so the water level is at the inside bead of the earthmover tire. This provides a weathertight seal to the interior where the float is.
The 8' tire with 2 drinkers shown here represents what I used. I installed 3 of these in fencelines to serve 5 adjacent pastures. http://www.cammackranchsupply.com/store/home.php?cat=13
