Western Nebraska | Don't take my criticism of her as meaning that I don't think she has any ideas worth considering. Clearly she has had a generally positive impact on the cattle industry. What my complaint about her is the notion that she has all the answers. People tend to defer to her judgment because of her disability. I think she deserves respect and admiration for what she has achieved in her life in spite of her disability. Having said that, I think the degree of deference to her and her ideas have not always been in the best interest of the industry. Primarily because of the costs involved in implementing her ideas. Her plans and ideas are expensive and they don't work any better than something simple like a Bud Box. Because she is a good salesman I fully expect the hog industry to follow her down the road for a while, spending piles of money, to fix all of their problems. After a few years people will start to realize that they spent a whole bunch of money and the net improvement wasn't enough to justify the expense. I am sure that there is room for improvement in the handling of hogs, but extreme caution needs to be exercised in converting barns to the latest greatest guaranteed to work idea.
