Subject: Re: Cow/calf question

Jim if I had the room and feed for all my heifers, I would breed all of them. Except for the pure junk(doggies, etc) Then I cull any and all heifers that had any calving problems, assists or not taking a calf, no milk, etc. You would bring the best of the best into your herd that way. Make beef out of all the culls. The big down fall to this program, most ranchers have immediate bills to be paid, and they really only cull up 20% a year. So to put it to the pencil they have to sell them as calves. Someday I hope I could get to the point I could breed all my heifers and try it. Then if I still had to many to put back into the herd, I would sell first calf pairs.
