at 3-4 " soaking will not do much work in a full slat, water will go in pit...just use high pressure and hot, as you do some try to get something under the buildup to help pry it in big pieces I use a "potato fork" with the long thick tines....for me the ecocare  that we put in the feed has helped with less buildup.  In my opinion buildup starts at what can of feed mixture you got.
