Subject: RE: prolapse

Best luck I ever had with one was a cow that had one in cold weather. Calf was on the ground for a day or two. Cleaned it up with warm water. and put it back in. Give her a lot of LA-200, was able to sell her in the fall. The trick to putting a prolapse back in is to hang the cow by her hind feet in the air with a loader tractor. Once I lifted a cow over the plank fence with tractor and stood on the boards to put it back in. Other times, just lifted cow off the ground so her hind end was about my chest height. You will find as you start to put it back in, you will hit the point it will just fall back in. Just take your arm and make sure everything is straight inside. Then take your thread and needle and sew her up. With the cow in the air, they don't push back on you, no need for drugs to stop pushing. I just use a log chain around legs to lift cow.

If they have happened in warm weather, and have any maggots, I still try to put them in, but I don't give them much hope.
