That term has been used for at least 10 years now that I am aware of. It's mainly used in the gelbvieh breeding that I have noticed in this area.
As long as you don't go past a 3 breed blend, some of those balancers would probably work great in certain operations.
It ain't any different than the guys that go to the purebreed sales and buy 3/4 bloods. That other 1/4 is something else.
