Subject: Spreading red clover on pasture

Columbia City, Indiana
Has anyone done this? Onto an existing pasture, I mean, just to thicken it up, and extend the grazing a little? I read an article somewhere about doing this, and was all gung-ho to give it a try, even borrowed a friend's spreader to put on 3 pt hitch, then I stopped at Rural King to buy the seed and found it was 149.99 for a 50# bag of "variety unknown" red clover. Called feed store, they were 154.99 for variety unknown, and 183.99 for some known variety he said was better for regrowth. Even at 5# per acre, that comes to 15 bucks an acre, which doesn't seem like much but then again this isn't the year to be trying stuff that adds expense just to see if it works.
