Subject: RE: Corn silage question

I'm doubting you can chop corn cheaper than feeding crop residue supplemented with a little ddgs, alfalfa, gin trash, whatever you have in your are for high protein.  For silage you have a big custom bill and everything will have to be scooped out with a loader and fed with a feed wagon.  Bale up straw, corn stalks, grass, soybean stubble, whatever you can find and buy a good bale processor, better yet, graze it.  You no doubt have good hot summers and a long growing season so running some millet or sudax after wheat makes another good feed you can bale up.  Harvest the corn and bale the stalks, cows don't need silage.
