Corn silage question

The hay is 15% water and the silage is 65% water.  Big difference, recalculate on a DM basis.  For 600 cows, a little silage is no doubt very economical, but all you are doing is switching the capital and labor from harvesting to the loading and feeding side of the equation.  I still say if you are feeding beef cows, it is more economical to harvest the corn and bale the stalks.
