Columbia City, Indiana | My steers that are on a steer stuffer eat straw whenever they have been out of hay for a while. I quit giving them hay because they are to the point where I just want to push them hard and get them fat to finish them, so I'm not bedding them much, either. Last time I put about 4 small bales of straw in for them and they ate a fair amount of it, maybe 10 or 20%. I had to spread some straw inside through the winter where they laid because they are on concrete, and whenever the snow melts it's a wet mess out there, and when they spend a lot of time inside it gets wet in there too. Even bedding them most of the winter, half of them still have crap/mud stuck in big chunks on their legs and bellys. I should sell them on the hoof so I get paid for all that stuff! | |
