Hoisington, KS | 3 years ago bought 3 balancer bulls, 2 Red Angus/Gelbvieh bulls and 1 Black angus/Gelbvieh. You can go out and scratch the backs of the 2 red ones. The black one went to market after one year. Just plain nuts. Any black angus influence we've ever had has been that way. The most docile breed I've ever seen is Shorthorn. I've bought a few shorthorn heifers(cheap) over the years and those turned out to be some of our best cows. We've used Gelbvieh bulls for 20 years and they've been about as calm as the shorthorns. I like buying bulls by private treaty so you can walk through a big pen and know immediately which bulls are eliminated. | |
