| Well, after much thought, and given that I have only been around cattle with bad blood, I have to say that the BBQ breed is the most docile. Usually the least amount of calving difficulties are from the breeds that have'nt seen a bull.
On a less serious note, seems like the crosses like a baldy or a dairy holstein have a better personality. And I know in the years my family had beef, the santa gertrudis seemed to have nearly no trouble calving, and were the best, most protective mothers. Even to the point of taking on an orphaned calf along with her own. Seldom did we loose a calf from a santa g., but if they did, they usually had a strong enough mothering instinct, they would adopt a new calf without trouble. | |
