New Mexico		279 days is the gestation for most. ( don't know how You came up with 283 days ).

That 1st calf you think was 8 days early was actually RIGHT on time!

Also with REAL maternal cattle...they should start 1 week to 10 days earlier than the 279.

And 99% of the time the first borns will be hiefers.
