Ontario, Canada | I'm not sure how big your crockpot is but if it's big you could try doing the pasta sauce in the crockpot and serve over pasta that you boil on the stove.
When I make pasta sauce in the crockpot I first brown 1-2lbs of beef with a 1/2 cup diced onion and 1/2 cup finely sliced green pepper. Once it's browned I add jarred pasta sauce and it can simmer like that for 8hours + You can always spice it up by adding mushrooms, or whatever you fancy... really simple and easy. Another option is to take farmer's sausages (like the honey/garlic or mild kind) and slice them up in 1/4 slices and brown them with onion/pepper (to replace the beef part). Makes simple "meatballs".
I was going to suggest chili but that doesn't really go with garlic bread and might not sit well with some of the guests!
